Fencing Contractors in Small Heath

E D Fencing West Midlands, run by Ernie from Stourport-on-Severn, supplies and fits boundary fencing in Small Heath. When a fence has blown down, gone soft at the bottom or simply reached the end of its life, we take it out and put up a straight, solid replacement on concrete posts.

Small Heath is mostly terraces and semis, and many of them have compact back gardens. That means short runs, tight access and fences shared closely with neighbours. We plan the work around those limits so the job is done tidily and the new fence lines up properly with what is either side of it.

Short runs and tight access

On compact plots a fence run might be only a few panels long, but it still needs to be done properly. Access is often the main question. If the only route to the back garden goes through the house or down a narrow passage, panels and posts have to be carried in by hand, and we allow for that when planning.

Because gardens are close together, a boundary fence is usually shared with a neighbour. Before we start, it is worth confirming who owns each side, since ownership decides who pays for and agrees to the replacement. We are happy to talk that through with you and note which side the panel faces.

What goes into a replacement fence

Each run starts with the old fence coming out and the posts being dug out. New concrete posts are set at even spacing, plumb and firm, then gravel boards are fitted along the bottom so damp soil stays off the panels. This is the part that makes a fence last, so we do not rush it.

On top of that go closeboard boards built on rails, or ready made lap panels, depending on what suits the plot and your preference. Lap panels are quick and tidy for short runs. Closeboard has a heavier look and is stronger against wind, which matters on a fence that takes the weather.

Gates and tidying up

Many Small Heath houses need a gate at the side or the back, and we can fit one into the new run on a proper gate post, hung square with a latch that closes cleanly. The old fence is taken away with us, and the garden is swept so you are left with a clean line. We also work in Sparkbrook, Bordesley Green, Yardley and Tyseley.

Questions about fencing in Small Heath

Is B10 within your area?

Yes, we cover Small Heath and the B10 postcode. We are based in Stourport-on-Severn, so we arrange a visit to see the fence and the access before agreeing anything. Get in touch with your road and we will get back to you.

Can you work in a small back garden?

Yes. Compact gardens are common in Small Heath and we plan for them. Short runs are straightforward, and we carry materials through by hand where there is no vehicle route. Tell us about the access when you contact us so we can plan the job properly.

Will you take away the old fence panels?

Yes. Removing the old fence is part of the job. We cut out the panels, dig out the old posts and take everything away, so you do not have to arrange a skip or find somewhere to stack rotten timber.
