If you are choosing a new fence, the two styles we fit most are closeboard and lap panels. Both are timber, and both are fixed between posts. They look different and suit different jobs.
Closeboard or lap panels?
Closeboard uses overlapping vertical boards and gives a solid, private face. It is a common choice for rear boundaries and anywhere you want privacy. Lap panels are ready-made panels that are quicker to fit and suit side boundaries and shorter runs. We will talk you through which suits your garden when we visit.
How a fence is built
We measure the boundary, take out the old fence, set concrete posts, add a gravel board along the base so the timber stays off damp soil, then fix the panels between the posts. Gates are hung on solid posts to match.

Questions about the West Midlands
How long does a fence last?
It depends on the timber, the ground and how well the base is protected. Concrete posts and gravel boards help the fence last longer because the timber stays off wet soil.
Do you take the old fence away?
Yes, removing the old fence is part of the job.
Can I choose the height?
Yes. We agree the height and style with you on the visit, bearing in mind the boundary and any local limits.
