Harborne is mostly leafy residential roads with period houses and later estates, so a boundary can mean anything from a short side return to a long rear fence beside mature trees. Send us what you have and we will get back to you to arrange a visit.
Boundary fences beside period houses
Period houses often have long, narrow gardens and boundaries that have been repaired many times over. Posts may be rotten below ground even where the panels still look sound, which is why a fence can lean after one blustery night. When we see that, we explain whether a few posts will do or the whole run should be replaced.
New concrete posts do not rot the way timber posts do, so they are a sensible base for a boundary that you do not want to touch again soon. We set them in line, at an even spacing, and fit the panels between them so the finished fence looks consistent from end to end.
Trees, access and tidy removal
Leafy roads usually mean tree roots and overhanging branches near the fence line. Roots can make digging post holes slower, and we may need to move a post slightly to avoid a major root. We will talk about it with you on site rather than make a hasty decision and spoil the line of the fence.
Access matters as well. Narrow side passages and tight rear gardens affect how we carry panels and concrete in, and where old fence waste goes. We take away the old panels and posts when we finish, so you are left with a clean boundary and no pile of timber.
Getting a Harborne fence quoted and fitted
To get started, tell us the address, the approximate length and whether you want closeboard or lap panels. A gate can be fitted into the run if you need one. We also work in Edgbaston, Bearwood, Quinton and Smethwick, and B17 jobs are a regular part of our week. Ernie will look at the details and get back to you.
Questions about fencing in Harborne
Do tree roots stop you fitting a new fence in Harborne?
Not usually. We can adjust post positions slightly to work around larger roots and dig carefully near them. If a root is very large we will tell you what we suggest, rather than cutting through anything that might harm a tree.
Closeboard or lap panels for a Harborne garden?
Closeboard is built board by board and gives a strong, solid finish for long boundaries. Lap panels are ready-made and quicker to fit, so they suit shorter or simpler runs. We can show you both and explain the difference.
Can a gate be added to the new fence?
Yes. We fit gates into the run with a heavy post on the hinge side so the gate does not sag. Tell us the width you need and where it should open, and we will plan the posts around it.
